Transorbital Sonography in the Evaluation of the Optic Nerve and Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter Considering Specific Demographic Features

چکیده

Transorbital sonography is a reliable method for non-invasive assessment of optic nerve diameter (OND) and sheath (ONSD) in patients with increased intracranial pressure. A wide range regular ONSD values has been reported the literature. The aim this study was to determine normal OND ONSD, differences between considering sex, age, body mass index (BMI), evaluate inter - intra examiner variability. included 100 healthy subjects, aged 22 87 years, who underwent transbulbar by two examiners, each measuring twice on both eyes at depth 3 mm behind papilla. Measurement analysis possible all subjects. Mean 2.39 +/- 0.28 mean 4.48 0.76 mm. In males, 2.47 females 2.35 0.27 (p = 0.042). There no statistically significant difference sexes > 0.001). Correlation age wasn`t observed. Positive correlation BMI 0.001) within investigator measurements < 0.01) shown. Men have wider compared women, but Age doesn`t effect width ONSD. correlates positively OND, not

Transorbital Sonographic Evaluation of Normal Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter in Healthy Volunteers in Bangladesh

INTRODUCTION Measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) by ultrasound is increasingly used as a marker to detect raised intracranial pressure (ICP). ONSD varies with age and there is no clear consensus between studies for an upper limit of normal. Knowledge of normal ONSD in a healthy population is essential to interpret this measurement. METHODS In a prospective observational study, O...

Effect of scuba-diving on optic nerve and sheath diameters

Background :There is not any data available about the effect of high bar pressure condition on intracranial pressure. In this study, the effect of diving on the optic nerve and sheath diameters as non-invasive markers of intracranial pressure has been investigated.   Methods : Twenty professional male divers from twenty one volunteers were chosen for this cross-sectional study. Only one perso...

Ultrasound measurement of optic nerve diameter and optic nerve sheath diameter in healthy Chinese adults

BACKGROUND Measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) is a fast and non-invasive method in detecting elevated intracranial pressure. However, the reported normal range of ONSD was inconsistent. The objective of the study was to determine the normal range of ONSD in healthy Chinese adults. METHODS Eyeball transverse diameter (ETD), optic nerve diameter (OND), and ONSD were measured by u...

Transorbital ultrasound measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter in normal rabbits

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and reliability of transorbital ultrasound (TOUS) measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) in healthy rabbits and evaluate the influence of body weight and head circumference on the ONSD biometry. Methods: TOUS was performed to measure the ONSD 3 mm behind the optic disk in 31 adult male New Zealand White rabbits independently ...

Sonography for determining the optic nerve sheath diameter with increasing intracranial pressure in a porcine model.

OBJECTIVES This study investigated whether it is feasible to use sonography to monitor changes in the optic nerve sheath diameter in a porcine model. METHODS A fiber-optic intracranial pressure transducer was surgically placed through the frontal sinus directly into the brain parenchyma of adult Yorkshire pigs (n = 5). A second bolt was placed on the contralateral side for intraparenchymal fl...
